Since it is just a concept product, it is still unknown whether it will eventually hit the market. However, Lenovo said that should it decide to pursue the technology, it will take about five years for such products to be available to the market.

In a statement acquired by South China Morning Post, Lenovo mobile business group co-president Aymar de Lencquesaing said, "It's hard to put an exact time frame on it. I think this is a product that could come to the market in the next five years, the next couple is a bit aggressive, in particular, because the equation of technology, novelty and price point."

In the quest to be the first to release a bendable smartphone to the market, Samsung claims that it would be able to do so as early as 2017, according to Bloomberg.

The latest statistics reveal that the smartphone industry is experiencing a slump after several years of growth. The market is also getting more competitive as manufacturers are struggling to take each other's market share. To stand out, smartphone manufacturers, like Lenovo, are experimenting with new and interesting features.
