“We will disrupt traditional industries... and create new value for users in North America and worldwide. [LeEco] will challenge the status quo and many industry giants and beloved brands in the process including Apple, Amazon and Tesla,” Jia Yueting, founder of LeEco, said in an internal letter.

The company plans to develop the Santa Clara site into its global headquarters to accommodate thousands of employees. The company also plans to promote entertainment content made by its movie-production unit Le Vision Pictures and local partners. LeEco currently has over 1000 employees in the U.S.

LeEco's latest move is an effort to expand its overseas presence, replicate its business strategy elsewhere in the world, and showcase its bold ambition. Billionaire Jia Yueting’s company plans to guide consumers to his more lucrative entertainment content by pricing smartphones and TV at low prices to entice people to get bundled LeEco memberships that give them access to paid TV shows and Hollywood blockbusters.

CNet reported that the company started out as China's largest video streaming site and was dubbed as the “Netflix of China” but eventually expanded its business by creating smartphones and TVs. Also, LeEco has shown off a concept car and announced a partnership with Aston Martin to build an electric car.
