The inaugural 2017 football games would be staged in the southern Chinese autonomous region of Guangxi, in the City of Nanning and will run from January 9 to January 16.

China and the three first-class national teams from Europe and the Americas will play four games, offering fans a glimpse of the highest levels of international soccer.

According to USA Today, under the direction of President Xi Jinping, China's big entrepreneurs and public sector have been heavily investing in the country's domestic league in a bid to bolster the national team, which currently sits in the 81st spot in FIFA world rankings.

The China Cup, which is a FIFA-approved international A-level football competition, will be held annually. It would initially feature four teams and gradually increase to eight teams in the future.

In addition to China, other participating countries will be among the top-ranking national A teams in the world, with their best players taking the field. As the host nation, the Asian giants will automatically qualify to enter its national squad in the tourney, securing the chance to climb on the FIFA rankings.
