Adding the mouse and keyboard makes for a make-shift desktop computer with the tablet at its core. Dell Cast has entertainment and productivity modes.
In the entertainment mode, the device shows the media being played on the tablet on the larger screen. In the productivity mode, Dell Cast expands the home screen into a custom desktop, offering the device's data and apps. the right-click function on the mouse is enabled for specific actions.
Consumers interested in buying Dell Cast should note the device only works with Android devices made by Dell such as the Dell Venue 7, 8, 8 Pro and Dell Venue 11 Pro.
Users of the Venue 7 and 8 will receive updates starting Tuesday to support Dell Cast. Owners of the Venue Pro will get the updates on Sept. 30.
