Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf appealed to the international community to help the country in fighting the deadly Ebola virus. To date, the virus has killed more than 2,000 people in West Africa.
Sirleaf said last Tuesday that she expects the Ebola crisis gripping the country and other African states to worsen in the coming weeks given the poor health system in Liberia.

Sirleaf said health workers are struggling to deliver health care due to of inadequate supplies, lack of outside support, and a population gripped in fear because of ignorance.
The President said the continuous spread of the Ebola virus in their country remains a very grave situation. Hence, she is seeking the help of the international community to aid in preventing the spread of the virus, as well as to provide medical resources to treat those infected.
In her talk with the audience at Harvard University, in Cambridge Massachusetts, Sirleaf said treating Ebola patients is taking such a long time to respond effectively. She added that the virus will escalate in another two or three weeks before it declines.
The World Health Organization reported last Tuesday that the Ebola virus has claimed the lives of 2,296 people across West Africa with more than half of those cases belonging to the poorest of the poor.
Liberia officials the United Nations Security Council that the Ebola crisis is threatening the country's national existence and that" it has spread like wildfire devouring everything in its path>"
Liberia's response to the disease is not at all helping in arresting the spread of the virus. Sirleaf said most of the population are ignorant and afraid of the virus. Other problems confronting Sirleaf is the lack of treatment and testing centers and a few health care workers.
Sirleaf said that during the recent increase in Ebola patients, she has seen more support from its international partners like the United States, United Kingdom other nations but these were not enough.
According to Sirleaf, the Ebola epidemic has set back its efforts in rebuilding the country after a series of civil wars between 1989 and 2003.
