The 2016 International Champions Cup is about to get underway this Friday, July 22 and opening the annual friendlies tournament will be a match between Premier League giants Manchester United and Bundesliga powerhouse Borussia Dortmund at the Shanghai Stadium in China.

After comfortably finishing his debut game as Man United head coach with a predictable 2-0 win over Football League Championship squad Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium last Saturday, via Daily Mail Online, Jose Mourinho is up for the first high-profile match of his Red Devils managerial stint against last season's Bundesliga runners-up.

Most of the first-team players from both squads will not be there as expected but there are enough stars from both squads to keep the game interesting, especially that ex-Die Borussen talisman midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be facing his former club for the first time since he transferred to the Old Trafford earlier this month.

The Armenia international played tight as a starter against Wigan and he vowed to the fans that he will do better next time, only that next time will be against his former team and former coach Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel's squad did not play up to par in their most recent fixture, a 0-1 friendly loss to 2.Bundesliga side TSV 1860 Munich at the Grünwalder Stadion also last Saturday, as per Goal, but they will definitely improve their performance in this highly-anticipated exhibition match against United.

Dortmund director of marketing Carsten Cramer was particularly upbeat about his team facing such a big-name squad like United in their first game of the 2016 ICC.

"Obviously it's a demanding challenge on a sporting level. For us, it is an enormous opportunity to face super-interesting teams such as Manchester United," Cramer said.

For Dortmund, it would be interesting to see how 19-year-old newcomer Ousmane Dembélé will fare against Mkhitaryan and the veteran backfield group of Mourinho.

Still, it's only an exhibition game so it is expected that both teams will not display their full aces yet.

The predicted result is a 2-1 win for Manchester United.
