It didn't seem fitting as he always appeared sophisticated in his dramas, but Joel Chan said that ever since he was three years old, he had been learning the lion dance. On the other hand, Derek Kok stated that he has been learning to dance the traditional lion dance ever since he was nine years old.
The latter has even joked that despite Joel Chan being 12 years his junior, he was Derek Kok's senior in terms of the duration they have been learning the lion dance.
According to media reports, Derek Kok and Joel Chan became friends when they found out that they shared a common passion for lion dancing. The two actors have thought of starting their own lion dance team after they retire from the showbiz industry.
However, the two stars have decided to start a project for their common hobby, saying that they've found inspiration from an interview they've had the previous year.
For the meantime, Joel Chan and Derek Kok are only the official members of the association, but the former said that actor Ngo Ka Nin is also involved in their project.
The actor said that they currently do not have time to practice, but they were really interested in the traditional dance. He has revealed that he and Derek only practiced for the event. Additionally, Joel Chan stated that they were in no way a commercial team and that they were performing without getting paid.
Furthermore, rookie singer Yuki Lovey is said to have been invited to the event as she, too, is interested in lion dancing.
