Chinese Media Talks Tough After India Deploys Tanks to China Border

Chinese Media Warns India Over Tank Deployment.

(Photo : Getty Images) Chinese state run newspaper Global Times warned India on Friday that reports of tank deployment to the India-China border may affect Chinese investment into India.

Days after Indian media reported that the Indian army has deployed nearly 100 tanks to the Indo-China border near Ladhak region, Chinese state-run media on Friday hit back at India's aggressive military action.

The state-run Global Times warned in its article that tank deployment near Ladhak region might "hit a nerve" within the Chinese business community and choke up Chinese investment into the country, NDTV reported.

"A media report stating that nearly 100 Indian tanks have been positioned near the Indo-China border to counter any possible threat grabbed people's attention as more Chinese firms are looking to increase their investment in India. However, it is puzzling that while deploying tanks near China's border, India still strives to woo Chinese investment,"  the article said.

The Global Times added that Chinese enterprises are very much enthusiastic about India's economic potential and all investment opportunities it offers. However, it urged Chinese investors to remain calm in the face of risk.

The article acknowledged Indian government's continuous efforts to improve the investment climate, while stressing that both countries can forge deep economic cooperation in the manufacturing sector. At the same time it called on both countries to work harder to clear up misunderstandings to lay down the groundwork for sustainable economic cooperation.

India Justifies Tank Deployment

New Delhi has justified tank deployment as a response to match up with China's military buildup across Ladhak border. Reports in Indian media claims that China has stationed major mechanized units and tanks on the border areas.

Analysts say that pressure is also growing on India's Modi government to get tough with China, after Beijing blocked India's NSG membership last month in Seoul, South Korea. The NSG blockade came just months after China snubbed India's attempt to blacklist Masood Azhar at the United Nations.
