Chinese government officials responsible for the development of the AG600 have confirmed that the sea plane will serve as a means to discover hidden marine wonders and resources. It would also be used for monitoring, detection, mobility, and transportation.
China would also use the plane to protect its resources in the disputed South China Sea.
Bearing a resemblance in size to the Boeing 737, the AG500 weighs almost 54 tons and possesses a flight range of more or less 4,500 kilometers. As a sea plane, it can both take off and land on either a body of water or land. Shanghaiist reported that the plane would be used emergency situations. The sea plane is said to have the ability to collect 12 tons of water in just merely 20 seconds. Furthermore, it can also perform rescue operations and can accommodate a total of 50 to 60 people.
The research, development, and production of the AG600 is said to have involved 70 aircraft manufacturers and 150 organizations.
