A new method of male birth control being developed by scientists will get rid of the need for condoms. It will be marketed in 2017.

The Parsemus Foundation, a non-profit organization, has begun research for a product called Vasalgel. It's much like a birth control mechanism but for men.

The Vasalgel is a reimagined medical technology of Dr. Sujoy Guha named RISUG, which means Reversible Inhibition of Sperm Under Guidance. This method is much different than other means of birth control.

Current forms of birth control are pills women take that affects the women's hormones.

Vasalgel passes the ball to the men's court. Instead of women taking pills or preventing pregnancies by buying condoms, Vasalgel prevents sperm from passing the vas deferens altogether.

The vas deferens is better known in vasectomies. This part of the penis is cut to stop the flow of sperm.

The Vasalgel procedure, on the other hand, injects a polymer contraceptive directly into the vas deferens, stopping the flow of sperm altogether.

One injection lasts for quite a while. At any point, a man can flush out the polymer with another injection, returning the flow of sperm.

This product has been successfully tested on baboons. Three male baboons were injected with Vasalgel and left to their own devices.

For six months, each copulated with 10 to 15 female baboons, yet none of these got pregnant.

Researchers are planning human trials for next year.
