Half of Chinese people surveyed believe war with Japan is coming

It looks like tensions between China and Japan have only gotten worse in the last ten years, in a recent poll by Genron, 53 percent of Chinese surveyed expect war with Japan in the near future, 29 percent of Japanese polled believe the same. This comes after two years of Japan trying to nationalise the disputed Senkaku Lands in East China Sea.

The friendship between Japan and China has never been strong, and the three islands in East China Sea have made tensions sore, ever since Japan bought them in 2012. Before Japan placed a bid, the Governor of Tokyo was the lead bidder, which made it look like Japan was thwarting efforts of more control from China.

More Japanese people polled in the survey believe war can be stopped, but both countries have high "unfavorable" rates of one another, with 93 percent of Japanese having an unfavorable view of their Chinese neighbours. Chinese have a less unfavorable view of Japanese, sitting at 87 percent.

Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has been looking to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping for over a year, but the Chinese appear uninterested in the talks of negotiation. Shinzo Abe has been criticised for visiting Yasukuni, a controversial shrine to Japan's war fighters, where many war criminals have been buried.

Shinzo Abe has also been hit with remarks that he is an ultranationalist, the media has started showing photos of him with the neo-Nazi leader in Japan. The remarks have hit the party hard and some are calling for the resignation, although the general atmosphere in Japan appears to want to keep Abe in power.

Civil unrest between the two nations might lead to the United Nations settling talks. No word from the United States or the European Union on the matter, but we expect if China or Japan mobilise armies, there will be words on the Senkaku Lands.
