Justin Beiber stripped down to his Calvin Klein boxer shorts Tuesday night, when he was booed on stage while presenting one of the performers at Fashion Rocks 2014 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

It seemed like his way of silencing the aggravated crowd, which really did animate the audience further. Many in the crowd focused their cellphone cameras on Justin as he stripped beside co-presenter, model Lara Stone.

The 20-year-old Canadian singer and Lara were on stage briefly to introduce a live performance by Rita Ora.

Beiber had not been shy about flashing his underwear at any time in the past, but this was the first time he did an impromptu strip on TV.

Justin first took off his jacket, pants, and then said, "I actually don't feel comfortable unless I'm in my Calvin's. So what's up?" Bieber told Lara Stone.

Then he took off his shirt, and was left with only his Calvin Klein underwear and socks on.

"Is that better?" he asked the crowd.

Lara Stone was visibly in discomfort, smiling wryly as she stood beside the almost-bare co-presenter. Later, she wrote on Instagram: "Thanks for that @justinbieber ???? @calvinklein @fashionrockslive #dope #nycalvins."

After the Fashion Week event, Justin took to Twitter to explain his actions. "Grandma always said kill 'em with kindness...and then strip on live national tv. Lol."

The post came with a Vine video of the stripping episode. "Good times tonight. Thanks for having me tonight #FashionRocks. #mycalvins :)"

In the same event, New York Giants' receiver Victor Cruz was also booed as he was introducing reggae-pop band MAGIC! The Giants had lost to the Detroit Lions the night before.

But the booing moments were contrasted by 41-year-old mother of two Jennifer Lopez, who came in a skimpy silver mini-dress and earned the loudest cheers as she performed her new single, "Booty."
