(Photo : Getty Images) Taiwan has condemned Kenya for deporting five of its citizens to China over telecommunication fraud.
Taiwan on Monday protested against Kenya's decision to deport five of its citizens to China in connection with telecommunication fraud, BBC reported.
The deportation took place despite the fact that last week, all five Taiwanese citizens, along with 35 Chinese nationals, were acquitted by a court in Nairobi. Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council, which oversees the island's relations with China, said the deportation "shows contempt for human rights" and "hurt the feelings of the Taiwanese people."

This is the latest in a saga that has seen several Taiwanese citizens being deported from Kenya and other countries to China. The deportations have strained Cross-Strait relations.
The deportees are set to be tried for telecommunication scam. China has said that several Taiwanese and Chinese citizens living abroad are involved in telecommunication fraud. China claims the scammers have swindled millions of dollars from Chinese citizens.
Taiwan does not have any diplomatic ties with Kenya. The island nation is recognized by only a few countries in the world.
China claims that Taiwan, which has been self-ruled since 1950, is a breakaway region that is waiting for unification with the mainland.
