Top-seed Sabine Lisicki crushed Grace Min, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open at the Victoria Park Tennis Stadium in Hong Kong on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old wild card entry survived a scare in her opening matchup against Monica Niculescu of Romania but more than made up for it in the second round as she crushed the American in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
The German unleashed a killer serve with a recorded speed of 210.8 kph (131 mph) during the first set of her match against Serbia's Ana Ivanovic of the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford, was the fastest serve ever recorded by a female in a World Tennis Association (WTA) event.
She overpowered the American with her huge serves and never gave the 20-year-old Min a chance to come back.
Lisicki will face Saisai Zheng of China next who upset sixth seeded Yanina Wickmayer, 6-4, 6-2, earlier.
Zheng, 20, broke the Belgian in the first set once and then twice in the second set to make her way into the quarters.
Also making it into the quarter-final rounds is Australian Jarmila Gajdosova who defeated qualifier Kiki Bertens and Francesca Schiavone of Italy who won over Kimiko Date-Krumm.
In the women's doubles competition, the Chinese team of Yafan Wang and Jie Zheng advanced to the semifinals after defeating the French team of Pauline Parmentier and Laura Thorpe 6-2 6-3.
Su-Wei Hsieh of Chinese Taipei is also competing in the doubles but with a different partner, her younger sister Shu-Ying. They are set to go up against Austrian Patricia Mayr-Achleitner and Arina Rodionova of Australia in the quarters.
Peng Shuai of China was not able to compete in the doubles along with Su-Wei. She decided to hold off further tournaments after she cramped up during her semifinals match against Caroline Wozniacki at the recent U.S. Open in Flushing Meadows.
