The world's fastest train that travels at a maximum speed of 380 km per hour will be unveiled in China next month.

The new bullet train will run on the Zhengzhou-Xuzhou high-speed railway line starting next month, according to local newspaper People's Daily.

Once the train starts operations, the travel time between Zhengzhou, which is located in Central China's Henan province, and Zuzhou, located in the Eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu, will be cut down from 2 hours and 33 minutes to approximately 80 minutes, according to NDTV.

The new bullet train runs at continuous operating speeds of 350 km per hour, an increase of 50 km/hour from the previous generation of bullet trains. The new trains have achieved a top speed of 400 km per hour during testing.

The new generation of bullet trains will mainly serve as public transport for the Chinese population. China has constructed nearly 16,000 kms of high-speed railway tracks connecting a majority of its major cities including the Beijing-Shanghai train, which recorded billions of dollars in profit last year.

More of these railway lines are currently under construction in China as the government attemps to boost the economy and improve its transport network by investing in infrastructure.

China also aims to be aggressive in the marketing of the high-speed train technology overseas, particularly in neighboring countries like India. A Chinese train company is currenly conducting a feasibility study for an inter-city high-speed train in India.
