The statement from the former president of the United States, Bill Clinton, came up after his daughter visited Africa. The visit was related to the Clinton Foundation that aims to provide support for the African people. Clinton's daughter, Chelsea, went with her father to visit different establishments in Africa including Roamotse Clinic in Hammerskraal, South Africa and Pretoria.

The initiatives take its toll as the US government continues to provide foundations in the healthcare institution. This is a matter that concerned Clinton as he observed that the US has been behind the projects involved in fostering economic growth as done by China.

In an interview done by the British Broadcasting Corporation in Tanzania, Clinton said ""I don't believe we spend enough money on basic economic growth initiatives. So I won't argue that the Chinese are going to get a lot of goodwill."

In recent years, China has been hugely contributing to the development of infrastructures in different places in Africa. This includes power plants, roads and bridges. In fact, China as already spent $75 billion from the year 2000 to 2011 as reported by the US-based AidData.

Clinton added in the interview, "I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing for America if African countries appreciate both what we try to do to help their kids stay alive and what the Chinese do to give them better infrastructures and I think that we've got to try to create a future that we can share with the Chinese, not one where everything is a zero-sum game."

According to World Bank, Africa still lacks funding to a total of $93 billion to create more infrastructure. Last month, a conference was held in Johannesburg to call for help in funding of the infrastructures in Africa.

When asked about the issue regarding Obama's seemingly disregarded actions in Africa, Clinton said, "But I do think that he cares about Africa and I'll be surprised if he doesn't spend quite a bit of time on (the continent) in his last three years."
