United States Secretary of State John Kerry endorsed the plans of Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to repair the strained ties between the Sunnis and the Kurds during the news conference on Wednesday in Baghdad.

The news conference was held at the U.S. Embassy in the area and Kerry also noted that Iraq is now part of the coalition to fight the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Kerry flew to the Middle East to seek support from the countries regarding military, political and financial resources needed to defeat the ISIS militants. Kerry noted that the coalition is the heart of the global strategy of United States President Barack Obama.

The United States and the world will not watch the ISIS militants spread their evil doings, Kerry pressed.

A new and inclusive Iraqi government set a new cabinet and new leaders coming from different Iraqi communities. With that, it will be the engine of the global strategy making the plans in full blast, Kerry added.

The Secretary of State also explained what prompted the change in the government of Iraq, saying Abadi wanted to reach out to Iraq's religious and ethnic communities. The reconstitution happened on Monday.

Abadi also appealed to the whole world to act immediately to stop the spread of the ISIS cancer.

The Sunnis welcomed the ISIS this year since they are opposing the government's alleged indiscriminate arrests and discriminatory policies. This is one of the problems that Abadi is facing and his team needs to convince this community to stand by them in fighting the militants.

Abadi also has to persuade the Kurds not to break away from the government and assure he Shi'ites that they will be protected under his government.

In line with this, new Parliament Speaker Selim al-Jubouri, a Sunni, said the hope the new government will be able to defeat the ISIS militants and establish democracy in the country.

The news conference came just hours before the White House Address of President Obama. The address is said to be focused on the strategies that the coalition has planned.

Kerry also mentioned that the United States is very supportive of Iraq's plans and called it a "bold" move. The U.S. has launched more than 150 airstrikes, air-dropped supplies to the displaced civilians and will be adding another US$48 million additional aid for urgent needs in the Middle East region.

Defeating the ISIS militants is a fight that the Iraqi people must win and that the rest of the world should be there to support them every step of the way, Kerry said at the end of the conference.
