Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday that it the ball is in India's court to decide its stand on the ongoing South China Sea dispute.

"It is up to India to decide what position to take," Yi said, when asked about whether he'd like to make a statement on China asking for India's support on the territorial dispute, according to Deccan Chronicle.

Yi arrived in Goa, India on Friday for a three-day visit, during which he will be holding a meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj to discuss a number of common issues faced by both countries, including the upcoming multilateral meetings such as the G-20 Summit in China and the BRICS Summit in India, which will also be attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Mr. Wang visit comes after a state-run Chinese daily warned India that if it opposed China's claims over the maritime region, its ties with Beijing will be affected, which in turn, would create problems for Indian businessmen, according to Times of India.

Wang is also expected to met Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit. Sources said that one of the objectives of Wang's visit is to convince Modi not join other countries in bringing up the South China Sea issue at the upcoming G-20 Summit.

Last month, the Permanent Court of Arbitration dismissed China's sovereignty claims on the resource-rich waterway, in a case brought on by the Philippines. However, Beijing has refused to accept the UN-backed tribunal's decision stating that it has no jurisdiction in the matter.
