Jubril-Badmos ordered 15 pairs of slippers for 150 Yuan each and deposited 500 Yuan. She came to the store to collect her orders three days later but found out that they carried the brand name Gucci. Fearing that the label could cause problems with the British customs officials, she asked for non-branded flip flops as replacement.

But the staff in the Xinwantong clothes market insisted that she pay the full sum for the counterfeit items or she will lose her deposit. The argument took place and a male shop worker hit Jubril-Badmos in the face. It is quoted in the article that she saw stars after the attack. Her hair was pulled so hard the hair roots were plucked out and that her face, right arm, legs were covered with blood.

The police arrived shortly and the women were taken away while the staff of the shop remained free. Jubril-Badmos was later accused by the Zhanqian police of inflicting minor injuries to the man and the three women.

The two women said that they were denied of medical treatment until they completed a statement. They were even asked to sign papers that they don't even understand. After that, Jubril-Badmos was then kept in the hospital for 25 days because she couldn't stop vomiting and her blood pressure skyrocketed. Idowu, on the other hand, was detained in the center with 15 other people.

Dreadfully excited to go home, the police suggested they could settle the case by compensating 207,580 Yuan to the shoe shop which included 35,000 Yuan for a jade bracelet and 150,000 Yuan for a diamond ring.

In the period of their 38-day detention, their visas expired leaving them marooned in China.

One of the Britons said that after paying 45,000 Yuan just to settle the case, the police denied to cancel their bail - a requisite for applying an exit vise - citing an on-going criminal investigation that could last up to one year.

Did Chinese police violate the Briton's human rights? The Chinese government should take a look at these one to maintain good relationship with Britain.
