Yanbian, last season's China League One champions, are trying to stay in the Chinese first division domestic competitions for the next term and they are on the right path to do so as head coach Park Tae-ha's boys seem to be peaking at the opportune moment.
Since early July, the team has beaten contending squads Shanghai Shenhua, Jiangsu Suning, Guangzhou R&F, and Shandong Luneng before this draw with head coach Sven-Göran Eriksson's side.
SIPG's Ivorian striker Jean Evrard Kouassi started the scoring during the game with a goal at the 10th minute off an assist from left winger Lu Wenjun, as per Soccerway.
However, the hosts found the equalizer just seven minutes later with a goal from Gambian midfielder Bubacarr Trawally from a cross by local winger Jin Bo, Xinhuanet reported.
The game went scoreless from then on as Yanbian earned their fifth drawn match of the season. Funde has climbed to sixth place in the current overall standings with their fifth straight undefeated performance, eight points below the third and final AFC Champions League qualifying berth for next season which is temporarily held by Shanghai Greenland Shenhua.
Meanwhile, SIPG succumbed to their fourth winless game in their last five outings which had kept them at the fourth spot of the current league table with cross-city rivals Shenhua now leading them by two points in the standings.
Coach Eriksson is expecting new Chinese transfer record signing Hulk to be available in their next game versus Shijiazhuang Ever Bright next week as well as injured Argentine midfielder Dario Conca as the team gets back to their full force entering the final stretch of the season.
