According to The New Indian Times, before the Monday's round of 16 match, Tai enjoyed a career 4-2 advantage in her head-to-head matchup against Sindhu. However, with a superb form, the 21-year-old native of Hyderabad dominated the Taiwanese all throughout the contest.
Sindhu managed to establish an early advantage in the opening game using her powerful smashes while committing unforced errors that favors the Indian shuttler to easily capture the first set in just 19 minutes.
The second game saw a similar scene, with Tai striving very hard but still struck by unforced turnovers while Sindhu continued to storm her opponent with powerful forehand smashes. The two-time BWF World Championships bronze medalist wrapped up the second set in just 21 minutes.
Sindhu is scheduled to face the 2012 London Olympic Games silver medalist Wang Yihan of China for a semifinal berth on Tuesday.
Wang is currently ranked as the BWF's No. 2 female badminton player in the globe. The 28-year-old native of Shanghai is a three-time Asian champion, winning the Badminton Asia Championships titles in the year 2011, 2013 and 2016.
Meanwhile, the Chinese pair of Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei lost to the Indonesian tandem of Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir 16-21, 15-21 in their mixed doubles semifinal match. The Indonesians will be facing Peng Soon Chan and Liu Ying Goh of Malaysia in the finals.
