Swiss consumer electronics maker Garmin launched its vivosmart bracelet at the recent Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin electronics show held in Germany.
The bracelet is a device that packs the power and functionality of a full sized smartwatch while retaining the smaller form and function of a fitness band.

Garmin said that one benefit of the vivofit, the vivosmart's predecessor, was the smart bracelet's capability to track the user's movements. Vivofit told its user to get active if he's been stagnant for too long.
The device's organic light-emitting diode screen displays multiple bars, which increase in number as the wearer does nothing. After an hour of stagnation, the fitness band vibrates over and over until the user exercises.
Exercising results in the number of bars returning to zero and stops the vibrations.
The vivosmart follows in the footsteps of its predecessor by adopting the feature.
It's also adopted other vivofit features, such as displaying the number of steps taken, distance traveled, time and calories burned.
The new smart bracelet is also capable of pairing with smart devices such as a tablet or smartphone. Using Bluetooth LE, vivosmart shares data with its partner app to provide a more comprehensive look into the wearer's fitness habits.
The habits include viewing periods of movement and sleeping data.
The user can also set and monitor his exercise goals, as well as participating in online challenges.
A new unique feature of the vivosmart involves displaying important notifications to the device. While vivofit can only monitor the wearer, its successor is able to display emails, tests, calls and calendar alerts on screen.
Unlike the vivofit's always-on display, the new smart band's screen is activated by double-tapping it. Users can also swipe the display to see notifications, fitness information and read messages.
