The Chinese women's national volleyball squad has advanced to the championship round at the ongoing 2016 Rio Games after beating the Netherlands in an impressive 3-1 victory on Thursday.
According to Xinhua, China's youngest player Gong Xiangyu scored the winning match point that sealed the win 27-25, 23-25, 29-27, 25-23 and secured China's spot in the finals. The winning team is scheduled to face Serbia, who defeated the reigning world champions United States 3-2 (20-25, 25-17, 25-21, 16-25, 15-13) in the other semifinal match of the day.

It is an unprecedented feat achieved by the Serbians as their previous Olympic best was a joint-fifth place finish at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
2015 FIVB World Cup MVP Zhu Ting of China finished the game with a match-high 33 points. The 21-year-old blue-chip volleyball player became only the ninth female player in Olympic history to score more than 30 points in a single official game
Team captain Hui Ruoqi also had a spectacular performance with 12 points and an ace out of her 27 serves in their semifinal match that lasted for one hour and 56 minutes.
China, the current world No. 2 women's volleyball team ranked by the FIVB, went through a lot just to reach the finals. After yielding to the Americans in the group stage rounds, the Chinese team faced the back-to-back Olympic champions Brazil in the quarterfinals before edging the European Championships silver medalist Dutch women in the final four.
The Jenny Lang Ping-headed Chinese squad is looking to win the country's third Olympic volleyball gold medal. China has already appeared in eight Olympic Games and won the titles in Athens, Greece in 2004, and in Los Angeles, California in 1984.
