The world's highest and longest glass bridge located in Central China will finally open to the public on Saturday, BBC News reported.

The bridge is situated in Zhangjiajie, Hunan province. The construction work on the mammoth glass bridge was completed in December last year at an estimated cost of $3.4m (£2.6m). The bridge has been designed by well-known Israeli architecture firm Haim Dotan.

The bridge is 430 meters long and stands 300 meters above the ground level. About 99 panes of three-layered transparent glass was used in constructing this bridge.

The glass bridge connects two big mountain cliffs. The mountains are known as Avatar mountains since James Cameron's famous movie Avatar was shot here.

Officials have left no stone unturned to assure the safety of visitors. Authorities have already conducted many high profile events to convince the public about the safety of the glass bridge. Earlier this year, authorities conducted a stunt involving a sledgehammer to test the strength of the glass. A car filled with passengers was also driven across the bridge.

Officials have announced that a maximum 8,000 visitors will be allowed to visit the glass bridge on a daily basis.

In recent years, glass bridges have become a fad in China. Chinese people have been flocking to such bridges to marvel at the glass architecture and enjoy the stunning view. Events like Yoga and even wedding have been staged on glass bridges in the country.
