Fujian Sturgeons Signs Former NBA Player JJ Hickson

Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) club Fujian Sturgeons has hired the services of the former NBA first-round pick JJ Hickson to play for the team.

According to Asia-Basket, the 27-year-old native of Atlanta, Georgia recently played with the Washington Wizards of the NBA early this year. Hickson is averaging 4.6 points, and 3.0 rebounds per contest in the 15 official matches that he appeared with the team.

He also played 20 games for the Denver Nuggets during the same season where Hickson registered 6.9 points and 4.4 rebounds in 15.3 minutes of playing time. The veteran basketball player posted a 50.5 percent shooting accuracy from the field while he was a 45.8 percent free throw shooter during his stint with the Nuggets.

Hickson is listed as 6-foot-9-inches tall (2.06 meters) and weighs 242 pounds (110 kg). He plays the positions of a power forward and a center.

He is the 2008 NBA Draft 19th overall pick selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers where he stayed for three seasons. He has played a total of 223 official matches for the Ohio-based NBA team. Hickson averaged 13.8 points, 8.7 boards, and 1.1 assists, in 28.2 minutes in his final season with the Cavs.

The former NBA journeyman played one season of collegiate basketball for the North Carolina State Wolfpack in 2007-08. He was named ACC Rookie of the Week on three occasions after scoring 20 or more points seven times and recorded an impressive 10 double-doubles. Hickson set an ACC single-game freshman record by pulling down a career-high 23 rebounds and also added 13 points and four blocked shots versus Clemson Tigers. 

Hickson also previously played with the Sacramento Kings and Portland Trail Blazers. He has also played for the Bnei Hasharon in Israel.
