The 14-time Grand Slam winner and World No.2 Rafael Nadal is considering skipping the remainder of the 2014 tennis season to keep him more prepared for tough grind next year, a source told Sports Illustrated.

SI tennis writer Jon Wertheim reported that Nadal could indeed make another hiatus from tennis after suffering torn ligaments in his wrist in preparation for the US Open championships.

"Maybe they were simply putting on a brave face, but ATP officials were expressing confidence that Nadal would be back from a wrist injury for the Asian swing and the World Tour Finals. I've also been told by sources not to be surprised if he shuts it down for the rest of the season," Wertheim stated in his latest report.

The 28-year old Nadal already lost 4,000 points after failing to defend his titles at the Rogers Cup, Cincinnati Masters and US Open. Now, there are rumbling from his camp that he may skip the Asian circuit and the ATP World Tour finals.

Nadal, known to be a warrior on the court, already made a lengthy off in 2012 when he suffered a gruesome injury in his knee. As everybody knows, the seven-month rehabilitation paid off as he put together one of the greatest comeback in tennis history by winning 10 titles - including the French and US Open championships.

This year, Nadal added another Grand Slam title to his total haul following another impressive feat at Roland Garros.

With regards to his plan of his sitting out for the remainder of this year's campaign, Nadal hasn't made any confirmation. In fact, there are reports that the Spanish Bull could see action against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in an exhibition match in Astana, Kazakhstan.

"According to the Kazakhstan Tennis Federation, Rafael Nadal will play Jo-Wilfried Tsonga two Thursdays from tomorrow in an exhibition match on September 25 in Astana," via Tennis X.

Nadal is still currently practicing near his home, hoping he can reach 100 percent for other tournaments. However, there's no doubt his health will be his top priority.
