Japanese automaker Mazda Motor Corporation has issued a recall for 11,449 imported vehicles in China because of faulty lower control arm components, the country's top quality watchdog announced on Friday.

The recall would affect Mazda CX-7 models made between October 1, 2009, and August 1, 2012, and Mazda CX-9 models manufactured from November 19, 2012, to December 24, 2013, the General Administration of Quality, Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine said in a statement.

According to Xinhua, the Mazda CX-7 would be recalled on December 12 this year, while its CX-9 SUVs recall will start on April 14 next year. The affected models are said to have malfunctioning lower control arms.

Mazda has vowed to check and replace the defective parts at no additional cost.

During the first half of the year, both foreign and local Chinese automakers recalled about 8.8 million defective vehicles, two times than the vehicles recalled in the same period in 2015.

Meanwhile, Mazda reportedly sold more than 21,000 units with a year-on-year rise of 30.2 percent in July, AutoNews reported. The Hiroshima-based company posted 139,033 vehicles sold in the first seven months, up 4.9 percent year on year.

The increase of FAW Mazda's sales was driven by the launch of new models including the CX-4. FAW Mazda sold 7,789 units last month, up 32.5 percent year on year. Meanwhile, sales of Changan Mazda also rose in July, selling 13,721 vehicles, up 29.0 percent year on year.

FAW Mazda improved its competitiveness in the Chinese market after it improved its Mazda CX-4. Development included changes in decoration, shape, configuration of Atienza, and making the model more appealing to younger customers.
