Second-running squad Jiangsu Suning FC won its second straight game in the 2016 Chinese Super League season after pulling off a tough 2-1 decision over capital city team Beijing Guoan FC at their home field of Nanjing Olympic Sports Center on Sunday.

With the win, Jiangsu reduced the gap between them and league leaders Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao FC to only six points with just seven rounds to go before the close of the China top flight competitions this term.

Newly-acquired striker Roger Martinez was the star of the match as the Colombian goalscorer netted a brace to help lead manager Choi Yong-soo's squad to their fourth win in five matches, Xinhuanet reported.

Beijing's Turkish striker Burak Yilmaz scored the opening goal of the contest with a brilliant individual move at the 10th minute to give head coach Xie Feng's side the early lead.

The Imperial Guards looked headed to a 1-0 advantage at the halftime break, but Martinez was able to sink his first goal of the match during the first half stoppage time after directing midfielder Ji Xiang's assist towards the back of Guoan keeper Yang Zhi's net, via Soccerway.

It was a close game from the restart with the count leveled at 1-1 until Martinez scored again at the 76th minute, which proved to be the winning goal, completing his double and handing the win and three points to Jiangsu in the overall standings.

Jiangsu remained at the second spot of the current league table with 44 points, six points behind Guangzhou Evergrande, who are struggling to find wins late in the season. The five straight defending champions are winless in four of their last five matches which allowed other teams such as Suning to come close to their previously 14-point advantage in the standings.

Meanwhile, Beijing suffered its second consecutive loss and third straight winless performance to drop to ninth place in the overall standings as Yanbian Funde took over the eighth spot.
