Microsoft finally announced its OneDrive will support files up to 10 GB in size after hinting at removing the 2 GB file-size sync limit.

The plan to upgrade file support will serve both consumers and business versions. It's the company's direct response to users' feedback regarding the limit of 2 GB file size.

Users of OneDrive can now upload files up to 10 GB in size. This Microsoft move competes against Dropbox and Google Drive.

"We're proud to announce OneDrive now supports up to 10 GB files," said Jason Moore, Group Program Manager of OneDrive.

The file size storage is not yet unlimited. OneDrive is still hopeful users will support it. The free version offers 15 GB storage and allows users to fill up the account with just two files.

The company said there's still no exact date as to when OneDrive Business users can get the new 10 GB limit.

Reports claimed this is because OneDrive is dependent on SharePoint Online and Office 365. SharePoint has a test version of its next version coming soon and the company may be waiting for its changes.

Moore also said file syncing is now faster and easier.

Microsoft said they're using new method called parallel syncing where users can upload and download multiple files simultaneously three times faster.

OneDrive changes will start to roll out worldwide in the coming weeks.

Users accessing OneDrive.com via Google Chrome can simply drag and drop entire folders onto the website to upload them with minimal effort.

When the files uploaded, users can share from Windows 7 and 8 without going to the website by using right click on the file and making use of the context menu instead.

Microsoft will extend support for Windows 8.1 and Mac in the future, as well.
