Tech company Jawbone has accused Xiaomi of copying its company’s design for one of its speakers.

Jawbone's chief creative officer Yves Behar claims that Xiaomi's Bluetooth speaker looks very similar to the Jawbone Mini Jambox.

“Sad for you Xiaomi, ripping off the Jawbone Mini Jambox. Sad,” said Behar in his Tweet.

Xiaomi has often been accused of copying designs by different companies, according to Ubergizmo. It is not called the “Apple of China” for nothing. Xiaomi's products have been called out for ripping off the iPhone's design and icons as well as user interface elements.

Apple’s design chief Jony Ive was once asked to describe Xiaomi’s efforts, and he did not hesitate to use the words “theft” and “lazy.” Xiaomi’s latest notebook called Mi Notebook Air looks similar to the MacBook Air.

The gadget in question is Xiaomi's Mi Square Box Bluetooth Speaker. It was launched in 2015 and is currently sold in China at roughly $25, Mashable reported. On the other hand, Jawbone Mini Jambox was first launched in 2013 at a retail price of $180 but now sells at roughly $60 on several shopping websites.

The Mi Square Box has a unibody aluminum enclosure with a grille design. It indeed looks remarkably similar to Jawbone’s Mini Jambox, though the positioning of buttons is noticeably different. The bone of contention is the grille's designer pattern that sets it apart from regular Bluetooth speakers.

The latest accusation comes at a time when Xiaomi is all ready to enter the United States this year. Earlier this year, the Chinese company launched a few of its accessories like the Mi Band fitness tracker and a range of affordable headphones.
