According to China Daily, twelve players from the women's national volleyball squad; the team's head coach Lang Ping; five-time gold medalist Wu Minxia; swimming superstar Sun Yang; and the newest social media sensation swimmer Fu Yuanhui will interact with citizens of Hong Kong during their visit.

Carrie Lam, who is the chief secretary for administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, stated during a ceremony at the Hong Kong International Airport that the Chinese central government has arranged national athletes to visit the region for five times since 1997.

The visit reflects the support of the country for Hong Kong and the deep feelings between the peoples of the Chinese mainland and the former British colony.

Liu Peng, minister of the General Administration of Sport of China, said the national athletes' achievements in the Olympic Games could not have been done without the support and help of Hong Kong people.

"We come here to share our glory and victory with Hong Kong people, and express our gratitude to them for their enduring support and help," the Chinese official said, according to Xinhua.

The Chinese Olympians will have some sporting skills demonstration performances at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium (QES) and Victoria Park on Sunday morning. The Chinese delegation will spend the afternoon at the show "A Date with Mainland Olympians" greeting the public at the QES.

On Monday morning, they are scheduled to meet with the Chinese special administrative region's junior athletes to share their experiences at the Hong Kong Sports Institute before heading for Macau in the afternoon.
