Former New York Knicks point guard and college superstar Jimmer Fredette is expected to "fit well" in China as he gears up for Chinese Basketball Association club Shanghai Sharks when the new season opens this October.
Glenn Falls Post-Star noted that the 27-year-old former BYU Cougars standout "will fit in very nicely" in China's basketball style of play which is said to be catering offensive players more.

Fredette's offensive skills had been well-documented during his college days when he became the 2011 NCAA Division I scoring leader, averaging 28.9 points per game, and was awarded the National College Player of the Year award also in the same year. He did not have a lot of opportunities to showcase it in the NBA, though, as coaches deemed his 6-foot-2, 195-pound frame too small and less athletic against the league's top floor generals.
Shanghaiist said that "the less physical and athletic CBA should fit better with the combo guard's strengths and weakness".
Last season, he managed to play two games for New York, averaging 3.5 points in only 2.5 minutes of playing time per night. However, he spent most of his time with the Big Apple squad's D-League affiliate, the Westchester Knicks, where he had flourished, averaging 21.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.7 steals per game.
Fredette was named in the 2016 All-NBA D-League Second Team and won the 2016 NBA D-League All-Star Game MVP award as well.
The report noted that Fredette "considered playing for other European league teams", but had decided to move to China "because of its shorter season and the chance to join an NBA team looking for players to help solidify its squad".
The Sharks is owned by former NBA standout Yao Ming, who had been known to bring in high-profile players to the squad in the past such as Gilbert Arenas, Michael Beasley, and AJ Price.
CBA rules allow only two foreign players per team and so with Fredette and the Boston Celtics' 16th overall pick last June, French power forward Guerschon Yabusele, currently listed as Shanghai's imports, then Price could be released by the team soon.
