An extinct animal was names after Mick Jagger in honor of the Rolling Stone's famous singer supersized lips.

Ellen Miller from Wake Forest University said that the animal was named Jaggermeryx Naida which means Jagger's Water Nymph.

The extinct swamp-dwelling creature lived 19 million years ago in Africa. It is the size of a small deer and looks like a crossbreed of a slender hippo and a long-legged pig.

Researchers said that the creature belonged to the family of anthracotheres, an extinct kind of hoofed animal.

The Jaggermeryx is very different from the six species of anthracotheres that they found. It has tiny holes on either side of its jaw that has nerves that gives sensation to the chin and lower lip.

Gregg Gunnell, one of the researchers, said that the Jagger reference came from the animal's innervated muzzle that has mobile and tactile lips.

Gunnel explained that the fossil was found in a desert that was once a lush tropical delta, crisscrossed by rivers and swamplands.

Researchers said that Jaggermeryx was a herbivore because of the relative amounts of different isotopes found in the animal's bones.

They said that the snout of the animal was used to forage along the river banks, while its lower teeth and large lips were used to scoop up plants.

Miller said that some her colleagues suggested that they name the species after Angelina Jolie, also because of her famous lips. But they chose Mick Jagger.

The fossil named after the famous singer is now part of the collection at the Egyptian Geological Museum in Cairo.
