Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is situated within Yulong Naxi Autonomous County, in Yunnan province, southwestern China. It is the southernmost snow mountain in the northern hemisphere. The mountain stretches a length of 35 kilometers from south to north and a width of 20 kilometers from east to west, with an area of 960 square kilometers. The snowy landscape of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is from 4,000 meters above sea level.

Following the changes of seasons and weather, the snow-covered mountain looks like a giant jade dragon flying in the pure white clouds. Sometimes, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain peeps through the mist and clouds; sometimes, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is lit up by the clear sky into a glittering and translucent world; sometimes, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain has an elastic waistband made with clouds; sometimes, the snowy peeks of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain reddens slightly as a rosy sunset suddenly shines through on a cloudy day.

A Chinese poet once wrote: "Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, level with sky all year long. Cloud ain't in love with peak, so peak starts to weep. Cliff turns steady, as if it is chopped by wind. Unconsciously as I am, new-born lush herb has grown luxuriant." The poetry describes the beautiful landscape of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.

There is a touching legend of "one meter sunshine" about Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Once, there was a pretty Naxi girl who fell in love with a boy. But the boy's parents were strongly against their relationship. So the lovelorn girl killed her herself for love. It was too late when the boy rushed to find his beloved girl. Suddenly, great sadness and emotion seized the boy, so he held his lover's body and jumped into flames.

After the girl died, she became the Wind God. She created Elysium on top of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain for lovers, where is no suffering, no pain but only love. Later, the folk tales went down to posterity. Every autumn, when the sky is overcast, the kindhearted daughter of the Wind God will cut of a meter of sunshine and sent it to the human beings' world. Only those brave lovers can obtain the meter of sunshine in one cave among the steep cliffs, the sunshine that can bring them happiness and love.
