A-League club Newcastle Jets FC pulled off a 2-1 win over Hong Kong Premier League champions Eastern Sports Club in a friendly match held at the Bao'an Stadium in Shenzhen, China on Wednesday.

The win was the Jets' second in as many games in their ongoing China preseason tour after they defeated Chinese Super League squad Liaoning Whowin FC, 3-2, last Saturday at the latter's home stadium.

The match, which saw Newcastle's new Chinese owner Martin Lee in attendance, was highly-entertaining right from the kick off although the Jets had "largely dominated the first 45" minutes, as per the A-League's official website.

At the 13th minute, winger Andrew Hoole, who scored a brace versus Liaoning, pounded a free kick wide from 25 yards away above the cross bar for the first legitimate shot on goal. Striker Andrew Nabbout had another shot at the 20th, but it was effectively saved by Eastern goalkeeper Liang Yuhao.

It was the Eastern's time to attack as the Hong Kong champs unleashed two shots on goal a mere two minutes later with the first one hitting Ben Kennedy's crossbar while the second was saved by the Newcastle custodian.

Newly-appointed senior player Kristian Brymora scored the Jets' opening goal at the 40th minute after he beat Liang inside the box in a brilliant one-on-one move then coolly tapping the ball to the net.

Eastern bounced back early in the second half with an equalizer from Croatian import Miroslav Saric three minutes into the restart, but Nabbout netted the winner at the 86th to ensure a second straight victory for head coach Scott Miller.

Miller also welcomed the return of Jets captain Nigel Boogaard, who is coming off an ankle injury that required surgery to repair, via the Newcastle Herald.

"It's always nice to have a player of his (Boogaard's) quality back in the squad, and furthermore a guy who speaks and communicates to the team like he does," said Miller. "He leads from the back and the organization he provides the squad is very evident."

Boogard was sidelined for three months before returning to the pitch in this game against Eastern.
