Typhoon Meranti Batters Southern China and Taiwan

Typhoon Meranti has hit southeastern China after causing devastation in Taiwan. The typhoon led to torrential rainfall and heavy winds in southeastern China. It also pulled out trees and interrupted power supply. The powerful typhoon made landfall in southeastern China at 3 a.m. on Thursday. It is expected to proceed to move inland.
China's Premier Li to visit Canada and Cuba, Attend UN Conference

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has been invited by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to attend the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly. Li would also be visiting Cuba and Canada. China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said the trip would last from Sept. 18 to 28.
US ‘Surprised’ Aboutt China’s Influence in Australia

In an interview, the outgoing US ambassador to Australia John Berry said that the US is "surprised" about China's influence in Australian politics. Berry's statement comes after Australian Labor Senator Sam Dastyari resigned from the opposition frontbench last week after admitting to taking money from an education company linked to China. However, he did not break any law doing so.
