Taiwan Adamant on Passing ‘Supervisory Bill’ Before Resuming Trade Talks With China

Taiwan's Economics Minister Lee Chih-kung said on Wednesday that Taiwan has not set any schedule for re-starting trade talks with China. He revealed that the Taiwanese government wants to first pass its controversial 'supervisory bill' before resuming the negotiations.

The incoming Taiwanese government will have to bear the blame for any impending crisis with China, Beijing said on Wednesday as it braces for pro-independent president Tsai Ing-wen to take charge of the island nation next week.

The incoming Taiwanese government has accused China of 'political interference' in the World Health Organization (WHO). The accusation follows after a top Chinese official raised doubts last week over the island nation's ability to keep its observer status at the WHO.

China on Friday lodged a protest with U.S over its decision to approve the sale of two surplus U.S. Navy frigates to Taiwan for $190 million. The decision is subject to U.S. congressional approval. However, it comes amid rising tension between Beijing and Washington in the South China Sea.
