Rwanda to Face China in Sitting Volleyball Tournament Opener in 2016 Rio Paralympic Games

(Photo : gettyimages.com) Rwandan Paralympian Hermas Muvunyi has decided to compete in the 1500m T-46 category at the 2016 Summer Paralympic Games.
Rwanda's national women sitting volleyball squad would face the world's top-ranked Chinese team in Pool B opening match of the 2016 Summer Paralympic Games in the City of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The game between the Rwandan and Chinese team would be played on Saturday, September 10.

According to The News Times, Rwanda, which is the only representative of the entire African continent at the prestigious international multi-sport event for athletes with physical disabilities, would play Iran in their second game, before facing the second-ranked the United States on September 14.
In the men's category which starts on Friday, host nation Brazil would face the USA, and Germany would go up against Egypt. In the women's event, Canada would battle the home crowd favorite Brazil, and the Netherlands would play Ukraine on the first day of the sitting volleyball competition.
Meanwhile, Rwandan Paralympian Hermas Muvunyi has opted to compete in the 1500m T-46 category at the Rio despite also qualifying for the 400m T-46 race.
The 27-year-old Rwandan sprinter and middle distance runner, who is the captain of the Rwandan team, confirmed the development on Friday after arriving in Rio de Janeiro only to find out that the two races are scheduled on the same day, September 16, at the João Havelange Stadium.
Muvunyi qualified for both categories during the 2015 IAAF World Athletics Championship that was held last October in Doha, Qatar.
