Chief of China's National Rio Paralympic Delegation Vows Chinese Athletes Would be Clean During the Games

China's national Paralympic contingent chief Zhang Haidi has pledged on Wednesday that there would be no doping issues with the Chinese team during the upcoming 2016 Paralympics Games in Rio, Brazil.

Zhang, who was also the chairwoman of the China Disabled Persons' Federation, encouraged all Chinese Paralympic athletes competing in the prestigious sporting event to stand firm against doping and take part in the contest without drugs.

"Our disabled athletes should behave as real heroes with an unbending will to overcome difficulties. Their faith in winning glory for the country and people should never be tainted by doping," the 61-year-old famous inspirational speaker and Chinese writer Zhang added.

The Rio Paralympics will run from September 7 to 18 in the wake of the Summer Olympics. About 4,350 athletes from 170 different countries will take part in the 528 medal events in 22 different sports.

China will be sending the country's largest ever Paralympic delegation to the major international multi-sport competition for disabled athletes. The Asian powerhouse will be dispatching a contingent of 308 athletes that will participate in the 15th Paralympic Games.

The Chinese delegation held a conference in Beijing before the squad made its way to Brazil, CCTV reported. The meeting reportedly took place at the Great Hall of the People, during the forum the Chinese team displayed its pride as it sang the country's national anthem.

Including officials and coaches, the Chinese contingent will be about 499 people. Almost a third of the delegation are veterans of the Olympics Games.

Zhang Haidi who spoke to the team asked them to show the Olympic spirit and to try their best during the competition.
