Basketball News: China Beats Jordan to Kick off FIBA Asia Challenge

The Chinese men's national basketball team kicked off their campaign in the 2016 FIBA Asia Challenge with a good start as they routed Jordan in a dominant 94-76 victory in Tehran, Iran on Saturday.

With the win, China currently tops the preliminary round in the group phase. China is in Group A along with Jordan and Kazakhstan.

Yuan Shuai led the Chinese squad with a team-high 19 points along with two rebounds. The 6-foot-5-inches tall forward went 6 of 8 shooting from the field while connecting five three-pointers from beyond the arc area.

Hu Jinqiu added 17 points, a game-high nine boards, two assists and one blocked shot for the young Chinese side.

It was a close game during the opening period of the match with the first quarter ending with a slim one-point lead for the Chinese team 24-23. However, things changed after China stormed Jordan with an impressive 31-9 second quarter outburst to cap the first half with a commanding 23 points advantage 55-32.

In the third quarter, the Jordanians were able to regroup and make their offense more efficient. The team staged a 20-10 run in the third frame to cut the deficit to 13 points 65-52 entering the final period of the game.

In the fourth quarter, China was able to contain Jordan's offensive run and outscored the opposing team with a 29-24 charge to seal the victory.

Meanwhile, in the other match of the day, a brand new Philippine team, the Gilas Pilipinas 5.0, suffered a tough 91-83 loss to the much taller national team of India. The 6-foot-8 tall power forward Amjyot Singh led the Indians with 24 points and 18 rebounds while Filipino small forward Rey Mark Belo scored 21 points for the Philippine squad, according to InterAksyon.
