(Photo : YouTube Screenshot) A team of researchers from Stanford University is working on a project to incorporate TPP, a type of chemical-fire retardant, on smartphone batteries to prevent smartphones from catching fire when the battery explodes.
It appears that the fallout from Samsung's defective Galaxy Note 7 batteries has one potential winner. ATL, Samsung's China-based battery manufacturer, has been awarded a contract to replace over four million defective batteries.
Due to the recent safety warnings issued by the United States Consumer Safety Commission regarding the operational hazards of using the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, the South Korean tech company was forced to issue recall orders for millions of units of its flagship phone.

However, China-made models of the Galaxy Note 7 were exempted from the recall order. The reason behind this is that only the units manufactured outside of China were equipped with defective batteries.
To hasten the replacement of these defective batteries and to avoid future problems, ATL would be manufacturing millions of replacement batteries for the devices that are being recalled. This could give ATL a big push financially as it is poised to be the only battery supplier of one of the world's biggest smartphone manufacturers.
According to Tech Node, Samsung has already submitted an order to ATL for four million replacement batteries. The boost could yield a significantly positive outcome for ATL, while, on the other hand, it could spell disaster for Samsung as the company may face future repercussions over the defective batteries.
Samsung is already experiencing a slump in its market share in the Chinese smartphone market as more players are flooding the market. This recent problem regarding its defective batteries would create a negative image for the company, and may further cut its market share.
