Meanwhile, a lot of fans eagerly anticipate the successor to the 2013 Google Nexus 5, rumored to be called the Google Nexus 6 based on a larger display size and the next number in the series.

Leaker @emtleaks provided a benchmark screen suggesting it would just be named Google Nexus 5 2014. Based on Google's track record, it always names its devices after the display size rather than its version. For example, the Google Nexus 7 is a 7-inch tablet and not a future handset.

Leaks show the Nexus 5 2014 with a 5.2-inch display. A 6-inch variant could also be in the works since the trend now appears to be the simultaneous launch of two sizes flagship handsets. Notably, the successor of the Google Nexus 7 was named the Google Nexus 7 2013.

The leak also showed the device running on Android 5.0 Lion. This is supported by TK Tech News, which said Google may turn to the Android 5x serial for big changes in the OS.

It could also be named the Android Lemon Meringue Pie after previous updates such as Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich and KitKat.

GFXBench showed the Google Nexus 2014 specs include a 5.2-inch display with 2560 x 1440 QHD resolution, quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor clocked at 2.7 GHz, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB internal storage, a 12 megapixel rear camera and a 2 megapixel front camera.
