Chinese social media and gaming giant Tencent recently unveiled the Entertainment Quotient Plan which is an initiative that aims to create a new platform for online content creators using the QQ social media platform.
Tencent pledged $150 million in providing social marketing tools and other resources in order to attract and help third-party content creators in distributing their products into the QQ platform.

It looks at forming new partnerships on online entertainment content. In fact, it has already opened its platform to third-party app developers five years ago. According to Tencent, they have already registered more than six million developers and paid them more than $240 million in revenue.
Tech Node reported that Tencent is using its QQ social media platform to attract developers. QQ, which is available for both desktop and mobile, enjoys nearly 900 million active users. This massive user base is what attracts developers into using the platform as it offers a huge potential for generating revenue.
Aside from social media and online finance, Tencent is also promoting online entertainment and cultural contents as part of the company's core products.
Although majority of Tencent's revenue stream come from online gaming, the company is slowly broadening its business and has already established subsidiaries in several popular online content categories including comics, TV drama, film, Esports, literary works, online publishing and online music distribution.
Tencent's move to maximize the QQ social media platform is seen to open gateways for content creators to bring their products into a bigger market
