Xiaomi Unveils Much-Awaited Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus in China

Chinese phone maker Xiaomi released the much-awaited Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus at an event on Tuesday in Beijing.
Lei Jun, founder and CEO of Xiaomi, said that its next flagship phones could compete with rival products produced by Apple and Samsung. Not only that, the camera features are far more superior, ZDNet reported.

Xiaomi has initially shared its preliminary registration numbers. And impressively, the new handsets generated 3 million registrations in just 24 hours. Of note, GSM Arena stressed that these registrations are not pre-orders but only potential consumers who have given their email to show interest.
Xiaomi's Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus are the successors of the Mi 5 that was released earlier this year at the Mobile World Congress. The two handsets are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 821 with 64GB and 128GB internal memory options.
The Mi 5s sports a 5.15-inch screen display with ultrasonic fingerprint recognition in 3GB or 4GB LPDDR4 RAM options. It has 600-nit brightness and 95 percent NTSC color gamut. Just like its predecessor, the Xiaomi Mi 5 used 16 LED lights with pixel densities of 428 ppi, according to Gadgets 360. It is equipped with a 3,200-mAh battery and a 12-megapixel rear camera with Sony IMX378 CMOS sensor, f/2.0 aperture, and PDAF. It is capable of recording 4K videos too.
The bigger option, on the other hand, the Mi 5s Plus has a 5.7-inch screen display with a choice of 4GB or 6GB LPDDR4 RAM. Although it does not have Mi 5s' ultrasonic fingerprint recognition, the Mi 5s Plus features a 13 megapixel dual rear camera pact. One captures colored images, while the other is for black and white images to provide an enhance color accuracy and depth sensing. It also comes with a 3,800 mAh battery, has a 550-nit brightness, and 94 percent NTSC color gamut with a pixel density of 386 ppi.
Both Xiaomi Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus will be available in two variants. Price for Mi 5s starts at 1,999 yuan ($300), while Mi 5s Plus at 2,299 yuan ($350). Both phones will hit the shelves on Thursday (Sept. 29) in China. Announcements for other markets are yet to be announced.
