Singaporean heartthrob Nathan Hartono finished second place in Sing! China competition on Friday night in Beijing.

Hartono clearly gave his best, serenading the crowd with The Longest Movie (Zui Chang De Dian Ying) on his individual performance and Nunchucks (Shuang Jie Gun) on his duet with his Mandopop star coach Jay Chou, the Channel News Asia reported.

Following the two rounds, spectators were asked to vote and picked the top two performers. Hartono gathered 35,577 votes, while Jiang Dunhao had more with 39,962 votes. The two faced off on another solo performance, The Straits Times reported.

The Singaporean crooner sang a medley of Moonlight in the City (Mavis Hee) and Woman Flower (Anita Mui). However, while his first performance was impressive and flawless, his second solo missed a few low notes, the Channel News Asia noted.

His efforts were not enough to win the hearts of the professional judging panel, and Jiang took more than half (56.7%) of the judges' votes eventually.

When asked by the Sing! China host how he felt, Hartono said: "Hello Beijing! Thank you to the Chinese people for welcoming me... I hope to be able to sing more Mandarin songs for everyone."

The show's mentors/judges are Taiwanese pop star Jay Chou, rocker Wang Feng, singer-songwriter Harlem Yu, and Chinese songbird Na Ying.

While Hartono is the sole finalist in Jay Chou's team, Na Ying's team was composed of Guangzhou's Wang Chenrui and Malaysia's Jeryl Lee. Meanwhile, Xinjiang's Jiang Dunhao and Shenyang's Xu Geyang belonged to Wang Feng's team, and Jilin's Yang Meina to Harlem Yu's team.

Despite being defeated, Hartono's fans in Singapore surely did enjoy the free ice-cold cup of Milo from Nestle Singapore.
