Wanda’s Wang Jianlin Beats Jack Ma to Become China’s Richest Man

Chinese real estate tycoon Wang Jianlin has once again be crowned the richest man in China. He beat Alibaba founder Jack Ma and others to top the list.
Wang is the chairman of Dalian Wanda Group and is reported to have a personal net worth of $32.1 billion. The annual Hurun Rich List 2016 comprised of 754 Chinese billionaires, out of which 594 are located in mainland China. The US has 535 billionaires.

Dalian Wanda group mainly deals in real estate. However, lately the group has been branching into different segments to diversify its portfolio. The group owns US theater chain AMC and is currently negotiating to purchase Dick Clark Productions. Dalian Wanda also owns and operates amusement parks in China as it seeks to profit from the country's burgeoning tourism market.
Jack Ma of Alibaba Group was placed second on the list, despite seeing a 41 percent increase in his wealth. Pony Ma of Tencent increased his wealth by 38 percent to clinch the third spot. Yao Zhenhua of Baoneng reported the steepest increase in wealth as his net worth increased by nine-fold to reach $17.2 billion. He was placed fourth in the list.
Rupert Hoogewerf, chairman and chief researcher of Hurun Report, said that Forest City Hurun Rich List has grown ten-fold in ten years and now lists 2056 individuals. He said that the main sources of wealth for the current list came from real estate, IT and the manufacturing sector. The top 10 list also welcomed three new entrants - Ding Lei of Netease, Xu Jiayin of Evergrande, and He Xiangjian of Midea.
