Tennis News: Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray Advance to Shanghai Rolex Masters Quarterfinals

Tournament' s top seeds Novak Djokovic of Serbia and Andy Murray of the Great Britain passed through the third round of the ongoing 2016 Shanghai Rolex Open and secured their places in the quarterfinal stage of the ATP World Tour event.
The 29-year-old Djokovic, the tournament's defending champion, got the better of Vasek Pospisil of Canada with a straight-set victory of 6-4, 6-4. The current men's singles world No.1 continued his dominance in the competition and showed no sign of the elbow injury that made him withdraw from the recently-concluded China Open, which the world No. 2 Murray ruled last week, in Beijing.

"I thought it was a great quality of tennis today from both players," the 29-year-old native of Belgrade, Serbia said after the match. "I was very pleased with the way I played from the first to last point. I don't think I dropped my level at all."
Murray, on the other hand, easily defeated Lucas Pouille of France, without dropping a set, with a 6-1, 6-3 win. The British tennis star, who also had set his sight in claiming the top spot of the world rankings, won his last eight matches in straight sets.
Basing from the ATP World Tour official website info, the victory also marked Murray's third consecutive win over the Frenchman this year while, Djokovic extends his winnings against Pospisil to five wins in a row since 2013. The two well-known top-ranked tennis players are the favorites to win the title of the Shanghai-based tournament.
According to GMA News Online, Murray will next face Belgium's David Goffin, who defeated the sixth seeded Gael Monfils after dropping the opening set 4-6 6-4 6-2. Meanwhile, Djokovic will be facing the unseeded German Mischa Zverev, who defeated Marcel Granollers of Spain 6-7(4) 6-4 6-1, for a place in the semifinals.
