Sophomore TJ McConnell is rumored to be the replacement of eight-year veteran Jerryd Bayless as the starting point guard of the Philadelphia 76ers this upcoming season.

Sixers head coach Brett Brown appointed McConnell to the position while Bayless is still unavailable, saying that the 24-year-old knows him "more than anybody" at this point of the season.

"He (McConnell), out of all the people I have available to me now, knows me more than anybody," said Brown, via the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I feel like those ingredients more than anything come to my mind (as to) why we have the confidence to let him end games."

McConnell was an undrafted player from Arizona, who was signed by the Sixers last summer. He played well during the 2015 NBA Summer League and in the 2015-2016 NBA Preseason Games that he eventually landed a roster spot in Philly last season.

The 2015 All-Pac-12 First-teamer suited up in 81 games for the Sixers in 2015-2016 and started in 17 of them. He played 19.8 minutes a night, averaging 6.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.2 steals, which is quite productive for a backup point guard.

McConnell will have a chance to prove his worth as a starter this season after Bayless is sidelined for a few weeks due to a wrist injury.

The Sixers signed Bayless in July after his contract with the Milwaukee Bucks expired at the end of last season. He played two seasons in Milwaukee, where he recorded a career-high 28.9 minutes per game as a part-time starter, before becoming a free agent this summer.

Bayless, an NBA journeyman who is now with his seventh team in the league, played his best season with the Toronto Raptors in 2011-2012 when he averaged 11.4 points and 3.8 assists per game.

Brown is set to list down McConnell, Sergio Rodriguez and Nik Stauskas as the team's point guards when he submits Philly's final 15-man roster for the season not later than Oct. 24, according to ESPN.

Bayless will be placed in the injured list as there is no timetable yet on his return.
