Veronica Shiu: Vitasoy Founder’s Grandchild

It has recently been revealed to the public that the reigning Miss Hong Kong, Veronica Shiu, is the granddaughter of Shiu Wai Ming who is the founder of the multi-million dollar beverage company, Vitasoy.

Vitasoy, with its $10.3 billion HKD market capitalization, makes Miss Hong Kong 2014 Veronica Shiu's family wealth even more impressive than that of the last year's winner, Grace Chan whose father is also a multi-millionaire.

Additionally, Vitasoy is known to be one of the long-time advertizing affiliates of TVB. The TVB Deputy Director of External Affairs, Tsang Sing Ming, confirmed it to the media that Vitasoy is a partner of TVB.

These findings by the media have sparked more rumors about Veronica's victory in the pageant. Speculations say that the beauty queen won because her family had business ties with TVB.

It has previously been reported that Veronica received only a total of 150,000 votes which is less than the votes that Sofiee Ng, the crowd favorite, got. There had been many controversies surrounding the top three finalists in the pageants. Though they have refuted every rumor, Veronica's family background just made matters worse.

However, Veronica stated that she did not get any kind of special treatment because of her grandfather's wealth. She was consistent in insisting that she has executed an impressive performance thus resulting to her victory.

"Everyone saw my performance that night, and I won because of my ability," Veronica said. "My grandfather didn't do anything to help me."

Additionally, she had cited that the staff and the contestants in the pageant did not know that she was the granddaughter of Vitasoy's Shiu Wai Ming. The beauty queen claimed that she is not sure about the partnership between the beverage giant and TVB.

Veronica also said that her grandfather supported her only in spirit and told her to do her best.
