General Motor's Chevrolet brand announced on Wednesday its plans to launch more than 20 all-new or refreshed cars in China by the end of the decade, including hybrids and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.

Nearly 30 percent of the vehicles will be SUVs and about half are new entries for the Chinese market, The Wall Street Journal reported citing GM.

"Chevrolet will continue to strengthen the best model lineup in the brand's history in China," Alan Batey, GM North American president and head of Global Chevrolet, said. "In the coming years, we will roll out breakthrough products with technologies that improve safety, performance and fuel efficiency for our customers."

GM revealed that most of the new vehicles will be made in China by its joint venture SAIC-GM. And several will be designed and refine for China by the automaker's Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center joint venture, Hybrid Cars noted.

The Detroit-based car maker also said that at least five vehicles will be launched this year including the Malibu XL, the Malibu XL Hybrid, the new Cruze, a Cavalier family sedan and the sixth generation Camaro muscle car, according to the Detroit News.

GM hopes for the continued growth of its Chevy brand in the country. GM has sold over 4 million Chevrolets in China in the last 10 years and has opened more than 600 dealership network. Chevrolet cars are being sold in over 200 Chinese cities.

Meanwhile, GM's Buick sold more than 1 million units in global sales between January and September this year, thanks largely to the 860,384 vehicles sold in China alone.

GM's Buick brand made the earliest date in history selling a total of 1,046,746 units, up 23 percent compared with that of last year. China accounted for 82 percent of Buick's total sales or five times as much as its U.S. sales.
